BluCurrent is lucky to have volunteers, also known as Members of the
Board of Directors, to lead the credit union. These volunteers are members of the credit union who have a passion for making a difference. The Board is composed of very talented individuals who play a huge role in the success of the credit union. Each has many great characteristics that we thought would be fun to share with you! We hope you enjoy getting to know Mary Ann.
Q: When did you start volunteering at BluCurrent?
A: April of 2017
Q: Give a brief overview of your volunteer duties at BluCurrent.
A: I started as an Associate Board Member in April 2017 and came on the Board of Directors in April of 2018. I currently serve on the Annual Events Committee.
Q: Why did you decide to volunteer at BluCurrent?
A: Well, I've been a member since I was just 5 years old. I feel like I "belong" at BluCurrent. When I saw an email calling for Associate Board Members, I knew it was something I could get excited about. It was the perfect opportunity to give back.
Q: What do you do outside of volunteering at BluCurrent?
A: I am the Director of Public Affairs Support at Missouri State University. I started at the university in 1996 as the Director of Intersession and Special Programs and moved to my current position in 2007. My role at the university aligns well with the community engagement initiative at BluCurrent.
Q: What does your typical day look like?
A: I wake up at 6am and take my dog, Simon, for a short walk. After that I get ready, make my coffee and do an online bible study with my sister-in-law. I then read the newspaper until I head out for work. Once I am at work I check in with my three staff members. The rest of my day is filled with meetings, emails and other various projects. I often have lunch with someone on campus or in the community about an event or special program we are planning.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job or volunteering at BluCurrent?
A: Meeting and working with a wide variety of people from all walks of life.
Q: What is your favorite thing about volunteering at BluCurrent?
A: I love hearing how we help members. I enjoy serving on the board and helping develop new products and services. I am very proud of what we do!
Q: If you could pick your dream job, what would it be?
A: I really have my dream job already! I got to help design large portions of my current job. I am thankful for a great boss who not only gives me flexibility in my job, but also is very supportive of my role on the CU board.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I can sing like the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz on demand without the use of helium.
Mary Ann has been happily married to her husband Brian since June 2007. She is a proud dog mom to her Yorkie, Simon. She and her husband enjoy bass fishing on Table Rock Lake and attending MSU Lady Bears Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals games.
