Services Credit Unions Offer
Unfamiliar with credit unions and what they do? More importantly, what they can do for you? We understand, and we're here to help! Below, we've provided a list of some of the common services offered by credit unions. You'll see lots of familiar services as well as some new, additional perks. Learn how these organizations can benefit you!
Services Offered by
Credit Unions
Loans.
Credit unions offer many different types of
loans, from consumer loans (those you take out for a car, student fees, or
personal spending, for example) to mortgage loans to business loans. Whatever
you need funds for, a credit union can usually help you reach your goal. The
difference between loans from a bank and loans from a credit union is often
what makes the latter so appealing—because credit unions
are owned by their members (rather than shareholders), there is less burdensome
red tape to cross when applying for loans. That means less paperwork and more
flexible standards for those needing funds!
Checking and savings accounts.
Everyone needs a safe place to keep their
money. Whether you're looking for a way to
regularly access your money or a place to let it sit and grow, you can get it through
a credit union. And with this comes other common features you associate with
banking accounts—ATM access, debit cards, and checks. An
account with a credit union will usually have low fees and other bonuses, like
free checks.
Credit cards.
While they're not necessary for your financial
health, credit cards are a great way to build credit, make payments easily, or
have funds in an emergency. Most credit unions offer credit cards—usually a couple of options to suit different people in
different financial situations. Credit cards from a credit union often provide
lower interest rates to their members.
Investments.
Credit unions also offer ways to build upon
your money through investments. One example is through an Individual
Retirement Account, or IRA. This account lets you invest up to a certain
amount to accrue interest and be put towards your retirement. The funds aren't taxed until you withdraw them.
Online and mobile banking.
Today, it's difficult to manage your money effectively without using
technology. Many credit unions have online banking and even mobile apps, making
it easy for you to check your balance, transfer money between accounts, view
your transactions, pay bills, and accomplish many more tasks.
